GIRL OF THE GAME AWARD- THE TEAM

MATCH REPORT

Abbey Lane girls kept the pressure on at the top of the table with a crushing 12-0 victory away to bottom of the table Aston Juniors. I said last week in my report that i changed things a little when we went 5-0 up rather than humiliate a team, but then realised our goal difference was only +4 above Dearne Dragons, so decided we needed to increase it today incase the title is decided on goal difference.
It took Abbey Lane 10 minutes to notch up their first goal in this game after threatening from the kick off. Abbey Lane were awarded a corner on the left, EM ALLEN put a great ball to the front post where JOANNE MAKINSON cleverly flicked the ball round the keeper. Abbey Lane instantly won the ball back from the Aston centre and on 12 minutes the girls were 2-0 up, the same partnership forced the second goal, a bullet of a shot from EM ALLEN could only be parried out by the keeper, and in slipped JOANNE MAKINSON to side foot home. Abbey Lane were well on top of the game and on 15 minutes got their third goal, EM picked up the ball in midfield and played an excellent ball wide right to ABBIE ROBINSON, she cut in and fired on goal, the keeper could only get a hand to it but it fell nicely for JOANNE MAKINSON to complete her hat-trick with only fifteen minutes of the game gone. Abbey Lane went constantly on the attack and again after some great football Abbey Lane went 4-0 up on 20 minutes. A great ball played out from defence found LAURA MARLOW who took on two players then hit a brilliant shot that hit the foot of the post and came out to the feet of EM ALLEN to score her first goal of the game. With five minutes of the half remaining the girls made it 5-0, another good defensive clearance saw the ball land at the feet of ABBIE ROBINSON who headed for goal, she took on two players, and could really have gone for the shot, but she noticed the great run EM ALLEN had made and slid the ball to her feet for EM to power the ball home.
I told the girls at half time to keep up the good work, we could do with a couple more goals to help our goal difference, nothing could prepare us for the quality of football we were going to witness in the second half.

The second half kicked off and Abbey Lane were straight on the attack again, and on 4 minutes the girls were 6-0 up, a cross from the left by EM ALLEN deflected off an Aston player and landed in the back of the net. Abbey Lane kept the foot on the gas and went forward wave after wave, with more and more players getting involved in the attacking play. With 12 minutes of the second half gone Abbey Lane went 7-0 up, some great passing football found EM midway in the Aston half, she took one player on, turned and shot on goal, the ball cannoned off the upright and fell nicely to JOANNE MAKINSON to claim her fourth goal of the game. It was becoming a competition between our two strikers who could claim the most goals of the game, and on 15 minutes, EM ALLEN picked the ball up in an identical position to the previous goal, turned her player and fired an unstoppable shot that beat the keeper to take the score to an incredible 8-0. Abbey Lane kept up the pressure, and probably wanting to get a bit of the lime light OLIVIA NOTEMAN picked the ball up midway into the Aston half, she turned her player and fired in a great shot that beat the keeper due to the shear pace of the ball, to make the score 9-0. The girls were not finished yet, and on 20 minutes made the score a striking 10-0, a ball out wide on the left was crossed into the area, every one mis-timed their chance to clear or score, but on the back post was JOANNE MAKINSON, who made no mistake to claim her fifth goal of the game. This goal marked time for changes, and out came our keeper JESS, with LAURA MARLOW taking over between the sticks. Abbey Lane claimed their 11th goal in this game, when a sliced kick from the Aston keeper saw EM ALLEN first to react and she made no mistake in belting home her fifth goal of the game. We were more than happy with the result, but one person was hell bent on scoring a goal, and that was JESS LEE our keeper that was allowed out for the last ten minutes. On 28 minutes she got the reward she deserves, when finding herself in acres of space in the area, EM ALLEN picked her out with an inch perfect cross which saw JESS LEE fire home to make it 12-0. There were plenty of chances in the last couple of minutes to extend our lead, but the chances were well saved.

This was an outstanding performance from the whole team, and an excellent score line, which was purely down to playing some of the most attractive football i have ever seen from a girls team.
You have got to mention the Aston team, as even with the goals going in left, right and centre they never allowed their heads to go down, they just kept battling away, and even though 12 goals were scored, to me the Aston keeper was their Girl of the Game, as she pulled off a string of excellent saves, which probably stopped the score being any higher. We are not a big headed team that likes to go out and humiliate teams with lesser ability than our team, but it was a good thing at this stage of the season for the girls to get such a score line, and hopefully it will give us the push in our last few games of the season, where we have a couple of tricky fixtures, starting next week with Worksop.

Well done girls, lets keep marching on!!
