It was back on our travels again today after last weeks wash out, to one of closest rivals Maltby. Both teams were on six points prior to the match and a win was vital to both teams season. I like Maltby - the matches are always close but fair and its either minus 10 or baking like it was today.

Our prematch was predictably chaotic, with last minutes withdrawals of Jamie and Fras meaning Benj had to wear the gloves in goal and matty's versatilty meant a stint in defence. With Parkway down to one lane, we had a late arrival at sunny Maltby, little time to warm up, no subs and our prematch routine didnt bode well for the match ahead.

First match we kicked off downhill and pushed Maltby back, Jordan created some chances for himself, Will berbatov Templeman played intelligently around him and mads tackled and worked really hard, but our finishing let us down. Will managed to better Dan Becks open goal miss of the previous week and whilst Maltby had some chances and hit the post a couple of times, we should have been ahead at the break. Second half maltby were kicking down hill and although we were pressed back, sams head, reubens strength, mattys skill and Wills excellent keeping kept the score to 0-0. Special mention for the ref who despite looking like an extra from the Ramones kept a fierce encounter flowing. Will Templeman was man of the match for his great passing and he worked hard throughout.

Second match brought Liams debut in defence with Conor, benj pretending he was 7 again in goal, josh free to run around like a lunatic and Dan Sam and John to get the goals. We kicked off downhill and were initially pegged back a bit but from Sams persistence he managed to round the keeper and slot in for his fifth of the season after a cross from Dan on the left.

From the kick off Maltby went straight up the other end and after hesitant defending slotted in at the near post past an isolated keeper. However, heads didnt go down and it was our turn to attack. A great ball from Sam across the face of the goal, John H was haring in and managed with the help of the defender to bundle the ball in 2-1. game on.
Second half we expected an onslaught from Maltby kicking downhill to level, but it didnt really materialise and after great work from Josh and Sam it was Dan Beck, managing to do his scoring on the pitch this week:p , to make it three one. The defence held out in a fierce match with tackles flying in left right and centre, with special mention to Liam for finishing strongly on his debut. There was still time for Benjie to tip away a shot round the post Hollywood stylee that was probably going for a throw.

Josh and Maltbys #10 had an old skool battle throughout and he deservedly won the man of the match from a happy manager, wearing some random shorts he must have found at the bottom of the drawer:eek: .

Great win in a hard fought match and the boys proved they have the bottle that the management wanted to see after a couple of tame performances. Its away to the Junior Tykes next week in the cup and more of the same:cool: (but a bit quicker eh so we can get to see match..);)
