MATCH REPORT

Abbey Lane U14's erased the memory of last weeks dire 5-0 defeat to Heeley Boys, by thumping Killamarsh Dynamos 12-1 at home on Warminster Road.

The pre match team talk was swift and straight to the point that we had players with in the team that were capable of changing a game, and i wanted to see them do that today.

The match kick off at a great pace and Abbey Lane could have been two or three up with in the first five minutes. The passing looked good, the movement off the ball looked good, we were just hoping we could keep this up. On 9 minutes disaster struck, Killamarsh were awarded a free kick 20 yards out, which they rifled into the roof of the net leaving the keeper no chance. The heads stayed up and it was only a matter of time before the equaliser came. On nine minutes, make shift central midfielder TRUELOVE went on a run with the ball taking on two players before going 1 on 1 with the keeper slotting the ball into the back of the net. This was the perfect tonic to get the team firing again. A quick change to the two strikers saw TORPEY and MALLINSON come on to the pitch in place of WINTER and MACDONALD. On 18 minutes a great squared ball from CHARLESWORTH after a great run saw MALLINSON side foot the ball into the back of the net with his first touch to take the score to 2-1. The team were now on fire and were having the majority of the possession. With 24 minutes gone TORPEY flicked a clever ball over the defence for MARPLES-DOUGLAS to fire home with style. Abbey Lane were now well on top in the game as Killamarsh crumbled and were struggling to get a hold of the game. With in a minute of the centre been taken Abbey Lane had extended their lead to 4-1. A great run by TORPEY saw him bamboozle three players before splitting the defence with a ball that MALLINSON just managed to get a toe on to slide it past the advancing keeper. To rub salt into the wound the striking partnership ripped open the defence again when again provider TORPEY chipped a little ball over which MALLINSON connected onto well before he chipped the keeper to take the half time score to 5-1.

I was straight to the point of reminding the players of my pre match team talk of " we have players in the squad which are capable of changing a game", and in my opinion, TORPEY and MALLINSON had changed the game. I now wanted to see others change the game and notch up a convincing victory.

The second half kicked off, and with in three minutes Abbey Lane had extended their lead. Half time substitute SHINGIE JANGWA went on a fine run beating three players firing the ball home at the third attempt. The team were now very relaxed and were playing the ball well keeping lots of possession not allowing Killamarsh any time at all to settle. With 16 minutes on the clock another player stepped up, this time it was the turn of captain MILLWARD, who collected the ball, realised the keeper was slightly off his line and from 20 yards released a shot that left the keeper no chance. At 7-1 it appeared all the players wanted to get on the score sheet, and only two minutes after the centre had been taken Abbey Lane extended the lead taking it to 8-1, in very similar circunstance to the previous goal, CHARLESWORTH saw his chance with the keeper slightly off his line, and from 20 yards out fired home. Abbey Lane were not finished and on 25 minutes another well worked and executed goal took the score to 9-1. DARCY ATACK went on a great run from his right back position, played a clever one two with the midfield to get round the advanced defender before firing in an unstoppable shot from 15/20 yards.
With only seven minutes of the game remaining Abbey Lane were adamant they were not going to take their foot off the peddle, and on 28 minutes Abbey Lane were awarded a corner which MARPLES-DOUGLAS stepped up to take, with an inswinging ball the keeper only helped the ball into the back of the net to give him his second goal of the game. Two minutes later Abbey Lane extended the score line to an incredible 11-1, when after a great run and shot, the ball was squared nicely for MACDONALD to side foot home. With only a minute remaining Abbey Lane topped of a great performance when a corner was claimed by the keeper, but as the players turned to regain positions, the keeper dropped the ball, and WINTER was quick to pounce to poke the ball home to round off a great 12-1 wim.

Abbey Lane Man Of The Match Award went to DARCY ATACK for a great all round performance from the right back position, this was a very close call as all the squad deserved the award today. The pleasing thing after telling the players that we have players that can change a game, we popped up with nine different goalscorers today, which answered my half time question of could any one else prove to be a match changer.

This was a great reply to last weeks poor showing, but dont lets get carried away. This was definately a confidence boost and now we can look forward to next weeks local derby against GREENHILL.

WELL DONE LADS, A TRUELY QUALITY PERFORMANCE.
