WORKSOP TOWN v ABBEY LANE 10-11-07
WORKSOP TOWN - 1 v ABBEY LANE - 0
GIRL OF THE GAME AWARD - ELLIE JAKUBIAK
MATCH REPORT
Abbey Lane travelled to Worksop Town and came away with a 1-0 defeat, but still clung on to second spot with a game in hand.
The game kicked off at a ferocious pace, with Worksop winning the early exchanges piling the pressure on at every opportunity. It took the girls ten minutes to settle into the game and had two attempts at goal denied. There was little goalmouth action as both teams battled for midfield supremacy.
With ten minutes of the half remaining Worksop broke through on goal with two players beating the offside trap, but the ball was well charged down and cleared by the Abbey Lane keeper Jess. Abbey Lane upped the tempo a little and were unlucky not to score when a 30 yard belter from EM was parried away by the Worksop keeper. The last five minutes of the half saw both teams have chances on goal but neither could force a goal.
The second half started and both teams were doing the same as in the first half, cancelling each other out, and battling well in midfield. With fifteen minutes of the half remaining Abbey Lane began to look tired as they struggled with the pace kicking up hill and found themselves pinned back in their own half for ten minutes or so. Worksop finally broke through and a tired Abbey Lane conceded the goal which was to win the game for Worksop.
This is definately the best team Abbey Lane have come up against this season as they have some big strong players that are well capable of clearing a ball. We have got to re-group and not allow this defeat to spoil our season.
