Match Report

On a freezing cold morning, the snow had thawed it was to be a fun day..

The pitch was in surprisingly good condition, and the bacon sandwiches were even better!!

Abbey controlled the best of play in the first 10 mins of the game, but Middlewood's striking duo looked dangerous in this period.. however Abbeys defense was up to the challenge.

Play in the centre of the park was getting bogged down, so a big boot seemed the order of the day, which is against our normal style of play.

The trademark ball down the right, saw Luke Roome connect and put Abbey into the lead.
Straight down the other end of the park saw Middlewoods number 9 in a one on one with Tommo, who got down very fast slowing the ball, he then got up again and stopped the ball crossing the line! WOW what a superb double save!!
One of many!
A fast break down the right, a ball into the box saw Callum connect sliding the ball into the back of the net only to have it ruled off side! Unlucky Cal.
The remainder of the 2nd half was evenly contested, both sides having chances.

The 2nd half saw a formation change.. which weakened our attack and consequently put us under some very early pressure, resulting in Middlewood drawing level, quickly followed by a poorly defended corner and we were a goal behind for the first time!
This was now to test the determination and resolve of the boys!

After a quick management meeting and a change back to a working formation, the lads quickly responded, Joe down the right crossing for Luke to get his 2nd! Great Goal.
Back on terms.

Abbey soaked up some really good pressure, with Tommo doing a great job in goal.
5 mins to go, and a superb ball finds its way infront of Callum, who berries it in the back of the net for the winner! Superb result!

Tommo did a superb job again in goal, well done some really great saves, and claiming of the ball. Arguably his is the best keeper in this league! Not bad for a Defensive midfielder!
Ryan had another solid game, good tackling and clearing of the ball.
Caleb did his usual crushing tackles and throwing himself in front of the ball at those crucial times.
Jamie Had a very solid performance in the central defense, making some crucial tackles.
Lee battled well down the left, clearing the ball well, and making some great throws.
Brett playing in the middle got stuck in as usual, making some crucial tackles.
Joe out on the right did his usual twisting and turning, making some really punishing runs.
Callum on the left then down the middle, popped up at the right moments to make the difference.
James down the middle did a sterling job, playing football, bringing other players into the game, a well deserved man of the match.
Luke playing alongside James stepped up his game this week, not only scoring 2 goals, but doing a superb marking job, putting Middlewoods most dangerous player out of the game.
Josh, despite coming off injured did a superb chasing job, putting pressure in the right places.
William fitted in well, battling away down the left, and down the middle.
Louis, who is still learning the game showed some good character, which is why we signed him into the season.

Great game, played in a good spirit from both teams.

Well done for going the extra mile and sealing the win lads!
