What a great day for the Abbey lane under 9's. We went into the game with a plan, but with a tense first 5 minutes, we didn't quite get into our stride. Then boys finally warmed up which gave Mat Man a chance to slip Wheatley in to put us 1-0 up, giving the boys a massive lift. Hulton hit a long range shot that got deflected and went into the back of the net, this got the boys in full flow. Riley got clattered in the penalty box and up stepped Mr reliable Holloway putting the boys 3-0 up. The football was now starting to flow and the boys were looking a class above, Hulton smashed a quality free kick to give us a 4-0 lead.
Second game got under way but conceded an early goal, the lads kept there heads up and battled on. This was proving to be a tough task, with Searle and Camm doing there job at the back, Sanders sticking to his role and Grimmer getting Kicked to bits, it was time to dig in but we ended up conceding a sloppy goal and Grimmer left the pitch with a bloody nose. The second half started with the team knowing the game was getting tough.
Oxspring got another goal to make it a nervey last 10 minutes, this is where I feel the boys showed real grit and determination, we really dug in and Morton pulled a top drawer save. Hutchinson at the other end of the pitch hit a great shot just over the bar, the boys showed great character and dug out a fantastic 4-3 win and caused their manager to have a great headache in the morning after the celebrations.
2 FORMATIONS, 1 FANTASTIC TEAM, WELL DONE BOYS!!!!
